Delaying Moses, Delaying Jesus, Only Hurts Ourselves
When he saw one of them being hurt unfairly, Moses came to his defense and avenged the person who was mistreated by striking down the Egyptian.
He thought his own people would understand that God was delivering them through him, but they did not understand. The next day Moses saw two men fighting, and tried to make peace between them, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers; why are you hurting one another?’
But the man who was unfairly hurting his neighbor pushed Moses aside, saying, ‘ Who made you a ruler and judge over us? You don’t want to kill me the way you killed the Egyptian yesterday, do you? ’
When the man said this, Moses fled and became a foreigner in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons.’
Stephen is still building the case for Jesus as the promised Messiah. Look at how he tells this part of Moses’ story — Moses was sent by God to deliver Israel, but the people weren’t ready. Isn’t this exactly the case with Jesus? He was sent by God to save God’s people, but they weren’t ready to accept such a salvation. These leaders, especially, were going to work on saving themselves.
The rejection of Moses, and here the rejection of Jesus, didn’t stop God’s plan, it just made things prolonged and more difficult for those who would reject Him.
This is why Paul would say later “Look, now is the acceptable time ; look, now is the day of salvation !” 2 Corinthians 6:2
There is no sense in waiting on following God if you know deep down it’s the right way. Today is your day! Follow Him will everything you’ve got. It’s not worth waiting another 40 years.
