Pour Yourself Out for the Thirsty and Watch God Take Over

Dan Sullivan   -

10  If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. 11  And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. 12  And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in. Isaiah 58:10–12 ESV (read more)

Man, who doesn’t want to be led by the Lord!?
But look at where He is leading you in this description:

Places of darkness
Scorched places
A place where you’ll need strong bones
Broken parts of the walls and streets

How many people settle for boredom and fruitless mediocrity in their lives because they don’t want to do anything hard? The Lord is promising here, it will be hard, but you’ll be prepared for it. Pouring yourself out doesn’t sound attractive when you are living your life for your own success, but God says otherwise. It is by pouring ourselves out for the thirsty and spending our-very-selves for the poor that God is able to fill in all of our lack.
None of us can provide hope, but we can reflect God’s hope. None of us can bring peace, but we can speak of God’s peace in a fight. None of us can change a person’s mind, but we can be there to remind someone of the truth of God’s love so He can change them.
God’s guidance and the hope of what He will accomplish are all we need to hold to see Him fulfill His promises. He will restore and rebuild things that are ruined as we draw near to Him and go where He goes.
