Coloring Their Hearts Orange

Rebecca Rohrscheib   -

If you have been around One Life KIDS much, than you know that we use the color orange to remind both parents and our OL KIDS teams to partner together to influence kids to experience Jesus.  Let’s think of being orange by using highlighters on the hearts of our kids.
Picture two highlighters. The first one  is red and the next one is yellow. If you’re a parent, your highlighter is red.  You are the ones that have the most firepower, the most influence, because you have the opportunity to influence your kids over 3,000 hours each year.  Your red highlighter represents the constant warmth of a fire, glowing, burning, and the love that you give as you lead your kids spiritually.  Each day, each moment, you have the influence to use your red highlighter to take your kids into a deeper experience of Jesus.  Your highlights are many and pretty much endless:

how to respond with truth
how to build a relationship with Jesus daily
how to use God’s word as the “go to” for life

One Life KIDS team, your highlighter is yellow.  You are bringing light into the darkness for kids.  You are opening up God’s word so that kids can see and experience Him.  Your highlights just won’t be as many as a parents, it’s a fact.  The parents carry the bulk of highlights on a child’s heart.  But they are incredibly vital and important because you:

are another voice in their life saying what the parent wants you to say
a first example of “doing life together” as a small group

Now, picture the two highlighters coloring on your child’s heart.  Some weeks there are more highlights from the parent, other weeks, the OL KIDS team has had lots of highlights.  As time goes on, those highlights combine and they turn your child’s heart orange.  They have had a combined influence that results in the end in mind that we, parents and church as a team, are striving for: kids experiencing Jesus with a changed worldview.
How are you highlighting a child’s heart (either as a parent or OLK volunteer) this week?  Share here and with your family or team.
