Taking the Step, With Parents & Leaders Surrounding

celebrating the step
i’m celebrating today, and i won’t be able to properly paint this picture, but i’m going to try. yesterday, one of our kids in elementary took the step to become a Christ follower!  he was asking some questions and involved in a discussion in his kids life group, and he expressed the desire to ask Christ into his life.  you can imagine that our leaders were really excited and you might think they immediately began praying with  him…but they waited.  they waited for his parent to arrive and together, with his parents and his leaders surrounding him, he took his first step towards a relationship with Christ!  isn’t that a beautiful picture?
collaborative art
it’s the picture we want to paint each week.  that parents and leaders each are adding brush strokes that are influencing and coloring the heart of a child towards starting or furthering their relationship with Christ. with our parents and leaders working with the same end in mind, a beautiful work of art is in progress.  with each stroke of the brush, we as a parent or leader are contributing to their spiritual development.
paint each day
as a parent, take your cue from God’s word on leading your child spiritually.  deuteronomy 6 outlines four ways that we can use the time we have with our kids to lead them spiritually:

when you sit—your hang time around the house
when you walk along the road—in today’s culture that’s the drive time—what if you used some of it for conversation instead of just driving, or music or playing on your phones, iPods, and DS’s
lie down—use bedtime to pray with your children and to talk about their day—what went well and what didn’t
get up—mornings are crazy hectic, but think of creative ways you can point your kids to God first thing.  What an impact that makes on your child when they are older if they remember that God was one of the first things that you talked about in the mornings

parents, what is one step you can add in this week to how you lead your child spiritually?  share your ideas here.
