Walking Through Rocks to See the Mountain View

Dan Sullivan   -

I will extol you, O Lord , for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me.
O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me.
O Lord , you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.
Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name.
For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

The benefits of worshipping God no matter the circumstance always outweigh the risks of grumbling while God is at work doing some secret good thing. So often, our habit is to be aggravated or frustrated when things don’t go our way. Problems, mistakes, even other people’s negligence make us have to change our plans or even our lives.
Keep your eyes peeled for phrases like “you have brought” and “you brought me” in the Psalms. David recognizes (usually after the fact, but that’s ok) that God was with him in all of his troubles. If God felt absent, that just proves that the feeler is a liar. God is with us all of the time like a caring, cheering, Maker. He made His creation for success originally, not destruction, so you already know which side He is leaning toward.
His anger does come, but it is not selfish and self serving like the anger we know. It is purposeful to get the plan achieved, which is why it doesn’t last very long. God’s plan is moved forward by wisdom, compassion, sacrifice, and service. Sometimes that involves anger, but only for sprints.
Rejoice today! Over and over again, rejoice! God is working and bringing us to a great look-back view of praise and celebration.
