Mind Control, Soul Control, Mood Control

Posted by Dan Sullivan on

Vindicate me, my God, and plead my cause against an unfaithful nation.

Rescue me from those who are deceitful and wicked.

You are God my stronghold.

Why have you rejected me?

Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?

Send me your light and your faithful care, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell.

Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight.

I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God.

Why, my soul, are you downcast?

Why so disturbed within me?

Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

Psalm 43:1–5 NIV Read More](https://www.bible.com/bible/111/PSA.43.1–5)

Have you ever had a conversation with your soul? Have you ever talked to yourself? Have you ever felt one way but when you rationally looked around at your circumstances or setting, you had no reason to feel that way (good or bad)?

History has gone through a couple rounds of explaining what our mind, soul, consciousness, heart, passion is exactly, but even if we can’t explain it, we can relate to it. This Psalm covers a range of emotions that are easy to feel when we are in a hard spot but have faith in God at the same time.

Just like we can smile when we walk into church after 15 minutes of yelling at our kids in the van, we have more control over our moods and emotions than we might think. Sometimes you can actually pray and tell your soul some facts that it might have forgotten. Instead of being downcast because somebody was stupid online, you can get your soul to focus on the Living God.

When you go to the Lord, you go there heart and soul and He meets you. Even if He doesn’t, and you are in a bleak and lifeless prayer time, the truth and reality of His presence are still there. The feeler is a liar, and a lot of times the voices in our head are too.

Go to the altar of God, your joy and delight, and He’ll mold that mood into the shape He is working on today.
