Looping Our Memory of the Lord’s Works

Dan Sullivan   -

I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.
He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.
Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!
You have multiplied, O Lord my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you!
I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.
Psalms 40:1–5 ESV Read More

This whole Psalm is worth reading through or even memorizing. You’ll recognize a lot from the from our songs and from the Gospels.
Whenever we have something present itself to us, a situation, a circumstance, a difficulty, we have a chance about what we lean on through that situation. David starts right off by recognizing all of the great things God has done for him in the past. Just the fact that David says “I waited patiently for the Lord” means that there was something that he wanted that didn’t happen in the time frame he wanted it.
It is always good to remember the good things God has done. No matter what stage of waiting you are in, praise the Lord in that stage. As we praise Him, He shapes our patience and our wisdom to see and receive what He is doing right now.
Eventually, we get to a place of realizing how much God has multiplied His deeds toward us and that His thoughts for us are always for His benefit, which is also to our benefit. Proclaim and tell others about His good deeds, and the deeds multiply and become theirs as well.
God continues to do wondrous things. Recount and consider what He has done and your eyes and heart will be trained to see what He does next.
