Scripture Reading: Psalm 127
1Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
2In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to those he loves.

3Children are a heritage from the Lord,
offspring a reward from him.
4Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one’s youth.
5Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their opponents in court.

Questions for Reflection:

Let’s be honest: there are times in the parenting adventure that we can forget the blessing that children are. When you’re going on 4 months of the child not sleeping through the night, when you’re scraping peas (surely that’s peas right) off the kitchen floors, when you find yourself refereeing a heavyweight match between two of the kids…. Parenting can be hard, but it’s a blessing. The psalmist reminds us that children are a heritage from the Lord, a reward from him. At One Life Church, we’ve been blessed to partner with an amazing number of parents in training their children up. If you’re a parent, spend time today thanking God the blessings that you have in your life. If you’re not a parent, spend time today praying for the KIDS! ministry volunteers that our serving families at One Life. Pray that they will be blessed, even as they serve and bless others.
