MYHEART4MYANMAR…FROM THE FRONTLINES

Two years ago One Life Students set out on a mission to raise funds to build an orphanage in Myanmar. To Date, over $57,000 of the $80,000 needed has been given. However, the idea behind building an orphanage wasn’t just to have a project to make us feel good. We wanted to cast Vision for our students to live a better story… to be able to do something that would be bigger than they could do on their own.
This morning, during worship we shared in one word how we would describe Jesus based on our experience of what he has done in our life. My word that resonated with me today is worthy. Because He is worthy, our students sacrificed going out with their friends on a Saturday night to paint canvases and bake cookies to inspire and encourage others to give to something that matters. Because He is worthy, students became passionate about what we were doing so much so that when people in the community heard them talk about it they wanted to join in and give to the movement. Because He is worthy, one of our Seniors is missing her high school graduation to serve and love on the least of these.
Today our team had a prayer dedication service at Zion for the foundation of the boys dorm being built (The 2nd phase of MyHeart4Myanmar). As we gathered hands to worship and pray, I couldn’t help but be reminded of God’s faithfulness. It continues to resonate with me of how our walk with Jesus fleshed out in Henderson and Evansville directly impact lives in Myanmar, just as the Burmese’ walk with Jesus directly impact our communities as we come home with new perspective and vision. These are real children with real needs. Simple needs. A concrete roof over their heads, and someone to hug them and tell them how much they are loved.
I am continually humbled as I watch our next generation continue to live out their faith sacrificially. They aren’t content sitting around waiting to be led, rather they are taking a stand and leading now.
