- What do you miss most about home when you have been traveling?
SCRIPTURE ENGAGEMENT
Intro: Over the last 6 weeks, we have been looking at Acts 13 and 14. Over these two chapters, we have seen Paul and Barnabas leave from Antioch, traveling to a number of different cities preaching the gospel. Sources indicate that this first missionary journey covered over 1500 miles and likely took 50+ days. Today, we will look at the “bookends” of Paul and Barnabas’s journey. . . the beginning and the end of the journey.
Read Acts 13:1-5
1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
Now…Read Acts 14:24-28
24 After going through Pisidia, they came into Pamphylia, 25 and when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia.
26 From Attalia they sailed back to Antioch, where they had been committed to the grace of God for the work they had now completed. 27 On arriving there, they gathered the church together and reported all that God had done through them and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. 28 And they stayed there a long time with the disciples.
- What is the connection between these two verses?
- Picture yourself as a member of the church at Antioch. How was each member of the church a part of Paul and Barnabas missionary journey?
- How does that relate to your role at One Life? As a part of the One Life faith community, how are you a part of every future One Life plant?
All of this points to a critical principle when we talk about mission, movement and purpose . . . Paul, Barnabas, and all those who traveled with him, Had a home to be sent out from and a home to return to.
Church Planting Strategy Booklet
Intro: Acts 13 and 14 show us numerous examples of the disciples commitment to church planting. At One Life, we want to be a part of that continued commitment almost 2000 years later. On Sunday, we released a booklet laying out our church planting strategy. Follow the link to find and discuss the One Life Church Planting Strategy.
