He Went and Reconciled Himself

Dan Sullivan   -

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.

And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,

and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Have you ever had that arch-enemy really do you wrong? So bad you didn’t want to go to that restaurant because you might see them there? Or so bad you couldn’t watch this movie because it reminded you of that person?

What if you made a whole creation and then, using the freedom you gave that creation, the whole creation turned against you?

The first step in reconciling with something that you hate, or something you’ve been divided from, is to deal with it yourself. You can’t hold onto bitterness until the arch-foe is destroyed and then forgive them. That’s vengeance, not forgiveness. That’s a Darth Vader apology.

God reconciled Himself to make a way to forgive our sins before we even asked Him to do it. He knew that we wouldn’t come looking for forgiveness. We long for reconciliation, but we don’t know how to do it. Like the ancient rabbis that revered God’s name so much that now nobody knows how to pronounce YHWH. Humankind has been on a rebellious track against God for so long that they didn’t know how to find their way back.

Through Jesus, God showed that the creation that He created was His. He took back ownership and showed mankind that we can actually live in a good relationship with God like what was first crafted in Eden.
