Scripture Reading: Luke 1:50-53
50His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
51He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
Questions for Reflection:
Mary sings that “[God’s] mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.” What does it mean to fear God? Francis Chan explains how the fear of the Lord brings mercy into your life. Take a few minutes to allow him to teach you. (If you have problems viewing the video in in this post, try this link.)
In what ways have you failed to cultivate that healthy fear of God? Having a proper understanding of God allows us to see Him at work more clearly. Mary understands that God has the power to act and does act in the affairs of this world. What mighty deeds does she attribute to God in this passage?
Spend time today in prayer and worship reflecting on the holiness and power of God. Allow Him to develop a holy fear within you. Then thank Him that He, in His great mercy, reaches out in love to you.
