7.9.23 Huddle
Opening Discussion:
- What was something you planned, but it got canceled or delayed?
Read and Discuss:
Luke 17:22-25 NIV
22 Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. 23 People will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them. 24 For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. 25 But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.
- What does Jesus want His disciples to know about the end times?
- What are the “days of the Son of Man” and why will Jesus’ disciples long for those days?
- Why will it be obvious when Jesus returns?
- If it will be obvious, why are people still fooled by people saying Jesus has returned?
- What are some ways you can avoid being fooled by false teachings about the end times?
Luke 17:26-29
26 “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27 People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.
28 “It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. 29 But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.
- What was it like in the days of Noah?
- See Genesis 6:5- The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.
- How did the Lord show mercy to the people of Noah’s day?
- What was it like in the days of Lot?
- Why weren’t people suspecting the destruction that was coming in the days of Lot and the days of Noah?
- What are some parallels between the days of Noah and Lot, and our modern times?
- Why won’t some people suspect the end times and coming destruction?
- What are some ways you can live your life in light of the end times?
- How could you turn the everyday things into opportunities to pray and be reminded of Jesus’ return and the end times?
- How can you reach out to people who are just enjoying life and not even thinking about Jesus’ return?
- What are some ways you could engage people in conversation about the end times?
Apply it!
- What is one thing you can do this week to be more intentional about preparing for the end times?
- Who is one person you can talk to this week about Jesus coming back?
Memorize it!
Luke 17:26-27
26 “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27 People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.
Prayer TACOS
Thank God for giving us signs and warnings to prepare for the end times
Adoration- Worship the Lord for His mercy. Worship Him for being a just judge
Confess to the times where you lived like someone in the days of Noah and Lot, only thinking of yourself and your plans.
Others- Pray for the person who you thought of earlier. Pray the Lord would give you opportunities and wisdom to speak with them this week
Self- Ask the Lord to remind you daily how to live for His will and not your own
Closing thoughts
It’s easy for me to live like the days of Noah and Lot. Not that all my thoughts and actions are evil all the time, but just getting caught up in daily living. Work, entertainment, kids, family, just doing things to pass the day, and then doing the same thing the next day. It’s easy to get in routine. It’s easy to get lost in the mundane day to day life and not think about what’s next. I just tell myself in those rare moments I think about the end times that it won’t happen in my lifetime. I suppress it and just keep going.
But Jesus is calling us to be prepared. To not overlook the signs, but to be focused on what’s really important. I don’t need to worry about the end, but I need to prepare myself and those around me.
So this week, change up your routine. Figure out ways to pray during your drive time. Maybe before you turn on the radio or a podcast, take a pause to pray.
Maybe it’s a conversation you need to have with someone about the end times. Mention that your church is talking about the end times and ask them their thoughts. Or better yet, listen to the leading of the Holy Spirit in how to have those conversations. Let’s make the most of the days God has given to each of us.
