3.4.23 Huddle
Opening Discussion:
- What was a subject you thought you knew well, but then you took a class or watched some videos, and discovered there was a lot you didn’t know?
Read and Discuss
Acts 18:24-26a NASB 1995
24 Now a Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by birth, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus; and he was mighty in the Scriptures. 25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, being acquainted only with the baptism of John; 26 and he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue.
- What are some ways Luke, the author of Acts, describes Apollos?
- How was the baptism of John different from the baptism of Jesus?
- Why didn’t Apollos know about Jesus’ baptism?
- What does this show you about teaching and sharing the gospel with others?
- Even though you may not know everything about the Bible, who is someone you can have a Christ-centered conversation with this week?
Acts 18:26b-28
But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. 27 And when he wanted to go across to Achaia, the brethren encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to welcome him; and when he had arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace, 28 for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.
- Why didn’t Priscilla and Aquila stop Apollos from teaching when he didn’t have the full story?
- What role did Priscilla and Aquila play in Apollos’ training?
- Where are some areas of the Bible and your faith that you feel you don’t know much about?
- Over the past couple of months, what is something you have been learning about Jesus that has taken your relationship with Him deeper?
- Who are some people that are further along in their faith that could help explain the way of God more accurately to you?
Apply it!
- Who are some people you can gather with on a regular basis to learn the ways of God more accurately with?
- If you’re already in a group, what are some ways you can dig deeper into the scriptures with them?
- Who are some people that you can gather around you to explain the way of God more accurately to them?
- What are some inaccuracies you feel when it comes to teaching others about the ways of Jesus?
- What is one step you can take this week to start helping others learn more about Jesus? (helping lead in kids or students, starting a Bible study at school or work, etc.)
Memorize it!

Closing thoughts
When I was in middle school there was a man named Dave who was an intern at my church. He was a college student studying to be a youth pastor. On Wednesday’s a group of middle school guys would gather at his house and play old school Atari games and then study the Bible. It was here that I learned what it meant to do life in groups.
When I was a high school student, I was given the opportunity to lead a small group of middle school boys. I didn’t have it all figured out, but it had been modeled to me, so I just did what I had been taught. My Bible knowledge needed improvement, my leadership skills weren’t the best, but there were older men and women teaching me and helping me as I did that for the younger generation.
Often when it comes to teaching the younger generation about God’s word and truth, we think it is the job of the youth and children’s pastor. We let them do that, because after all, that’s why we pay them and they’ve had training. But what is God calling you to do for the next generation? Is it time for you to step up and take on a group of middle school boys who are awkward, goofy, and looking for a place to belong? Maybe God is pointing you to step into the lives of a group of high school girls who are searching for identity in the things of the world and need a gentle nudge in the direction of Jesus. Or maybe, just maybe there is a group of children who are figuring out what God is like, and you have the opportunity on a Sunday morning to talk to them about their life and Jesus.
Don’t wait until you are a Bible scholar. Don’t wait until you can speak, read, and interpret Greek and Hebrew accurately. Do it now. There are people out there right now who need the word of God explained to them more accurately. Don’t miss your opportunity!
