Spending Time Reading the Bible is The Best

Dan Sullivan   -

I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts.

I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me.

How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Back in the late 1900s, a bunch of us were doing a City-Serve type project on a house. I think we were peeling wallpaper and hauling trash out of someone’s house. The lady carried on and on about how thankful she was and how much she wanted to pay us or do something for us, but she didn’t have anything to give.

Then I overheard Ann Gries tell her, “If you want to do something, how about if you promise to read your Bible every day for a week.”

I thought it was genius.

Whatever problems that lady was having — before the statistics of The Move research — Ann knew this lady’s life would change if she’d consider reading the Bible seriously.

It was around that time that several of us asked a question: what if instead of talking about movies and complaining about our jobs, we just talked about the Bible? And if we didn’t have anything to talk about, what if we read the Bible out loud until we did?

Many of those people have been in full-time ministry, or at least write the NextGen content for One Life in their spare time.

Bible engagement is a thing.

I am signing off from the daily Bible readings but passing you off into good hands. Follow the scripture link above and you’ll find more reading plans and Bible translations than you could ever consume in a lifetime.

Get some friends together and talk about it. Talk about it to strangers. Talk about it to the Lord. He loves to answer the prayers that ask for things He told us to ask for. He’ll be in it. He loves to show off in your life.

Starting in January of 2023, we want to move everyone over to the engaging reading plans in the YouVersion Bible App. Search your App Store for “YouVersion Bible” or click the scripture reference above to load it on your phone.
