Opening Discussion:

  • What is something you are looking forward to this year?

Read and Discuss

Psalm 90:10-12 CSB

10 Our lives last seventy years or, if we are strong, eighty years. Even the best of them are struggle and sorrow; indeed, they pass quickly and we fly away.

11  Who understands the power of your anger? Your wrath matches the fear that is due you.

12 Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts.

  • What is Moses saying in this Psalm?
  • Why does Moses say our best days are struggle and sorrow?
    • What were some things in Moses’ life that may have led him to that conclusion?
  • What does numbering our days carefully mean?
  • How could numbering our days carefully develop wisdom?
  • What are some ways people may waste their days?
  • What is something you could do this week to be intentional about your days?

Read Psalm 119:11-19

11 I have treasured your word in my heart

so that I may not sin against you.

12 Lord, may you be blessed;

teach me your statutes.

13 With my lips I proclaim

all the judgments from your mouth.

14 I rejoice in the way revealed by your decrees

as much as in all riches.

15 I will meditate on your precepts

and think about your ways.

16 I will delight in your statutes;

I will not forget your word.

17 Deal generously with your servant

so that I might live; then I will keep your word.

18 Open my eyes so that I may contemplate

wondrous things from your instruction.

19 I am a resident alien on earth;

do not hide your commands from me.

  • What does the Psalmist say about the importance of God’s Word?
  • What are some of the benefits of living according to God’s instruction?
  • What’s difficult about living according to God’s plan and His ways?
  • If you were numbering your days carefully, how would God’s Word fit into that?
  • Why is it important to read the Bible and live it out?

Apply it!

  • If you already have a practice of reading your Bible regularly, how did you develop that habit?
  • If you don’t read your Bible regularly, what is a small step you can take this week to start reading your Bible?
    • When will you read? Where? For how long? What will you read? What will you do to make sure you read it again?
    • Who can help you do this? When will you talk to them?

Memorize it!

Psalm 119:11 I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.
