11.27.22 Huddle
Opening Question
- Tell a crazy Black Friday story. (A deal you got, how early or long you waited, other people snatching stuff out of your hands, etc.)
Read and Discuss
Luke 16:10-13 NASB 1995
10 “He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much. 11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the use of unrighteous wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you? 12 And if you have not been faithful in the use of that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? 13 No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”
- Jesus is addressing the Pharisees in this passage. What were some little things the Pharisees were supposed to be faithful in?
- What little things in your life are you called to be faithful to?
- Why does faithfulness in the little things lead to faithfulness in the big things?
- What are some ways you have seen this played out in your life or in those around you?
- Why does unrighteousness in the little things mean that someone will be unrighteous in big things?
- How does how you handle a little money show how you will handle a lot of money?
- Why do people assume that they would be generous if they won the lottery, but aren’t generous now?
1 Chronicles 29: 14-15
But who am I and who are my people that we should be able to offer as generously as this? For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given to You. For we are sojourners before You, and tenants, as all our fathers were; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.
- In David’s prayer to the Lord, how does he talk about wealth?
- What does it mean that “ all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given to You?”
- If we see our wealth as given to us by God, and anything we give is us just giving it back to Him, how could that change your perspective on your wealth and possessions?
- What’s the difference between being a tenant and being an owner?
- If we are just renting our stuff and wealth from the Lord, are you being a good tenant?
Luke 16:14-15 NASB
14 Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and were scoffing at Him. 15 And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God.
- What had the Pharisees missed about their wealth?
- What do people today misunderstand about their wealth?
- Why do people get so caught up in the things that they own and the amount of money they have?
Apply it!
- What are some things you believe about wealth that may be wrong?
- What are some steps the Lord may want you to take to have a healthier view of money?
- What is one way you can show generosity this week?
(This may be a great time to bring up the partnership with Daniel Wertz and the displays in the lobbies at East and West to help the teachers and students)
Memorize it!
1 Chronicles 29:14 “But who am I and who are my people that we should be able to offer as generously as this? For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given You.
