Opening Question

  • What’s the coolest party you’ve ever been to or thrown for someone?

Luke 14:1, 12-14 NASB 1995

1 It happened that when He went into the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees on the Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching Him closely. 

12 And He also went on to say to the one who had invited Him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, otherwise they may also invite you in return and that will be your repayment. 13 But when you give a reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed, since they do not have the means to repay you; for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

  • Why did Jesus say this to the leader of the Pharisees who had invited Him to this party?
  • Is Jesus saying that we shouldn’t have get-togethers with our families, birthday parties for our kids, and even small groups in our homes?
    • If He isn’t saying that, what is Jesus saying then?
  • Why is it easy to do things for others who can repay you?
  • What are some ways we can help the poor, crippled, lame, blind, and the down and out?
  • What does Jesus mean when He says we will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous?
  • What needs to change about your mindset to start thinking in this way?
  • What’s the difference between going and helping the poor, helpless, blind, and lame and inviting them to hang out with you and be part of your life?

Prayer TACOS

Thank the Lord for providing for you.

Adoration- Spend a moment telling God how awesome He is for providing for the animals and taking care of them. Then worship Him for providing for you.

Confess the times when you haven’t helped others who can’t pay you back.

Others- Pray that the Lord would put someone in your path this week that you could bless in Jesus’ name who won’t be able to repay you.

Self- ask the Lord to help you to be generous with the way you live.
