Ride the Worship and Adoration Roller Coaster All Day
1 O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
There is a disputed story that the first Russian Cosmonaut went to space, came back, and said “I didn’t see any evidence of God.” Whether he really said that or if it’s pro-communist propaganda (or anti-communist propaganda!) doesn’t matter because it’s a perfect cautionary tale for us.
We can go all of the way to work, or all of the way to the living room, and come back thinking “I didn’t see any evidence of God.”
The reality is that we’ll often find what we are looking for. Even better, Jesus promised that if we seek after Him and ask Him for the fullness of the Holy Spirit, we’ll find more and more. The more we seek, the more we find! The more of His holiness in our lives we ask for, the more we get!
This is a great passage to memorize and to proclaim as truth whenever you have a doubt about the world, truth, or even your next steps. Taking a minute to recognize some truth about God has a great way of recalibrating our thoughts. This Psalm is also a typical route that our prayers may take.
We worship Him and are filled with awe at the greatness of God. (Have you taken look at lichens lately? Or held a tomato while feeling the nasty dirt it grew out of with only sunlight, heat, and water? How about the back of your hand? The texture. The color. The movements and its ability to heal all but the most major of injuries???) Even if you don’t agree with how His followers are doing, you can appreciate that something amazing has created all of these amazing things.
Then, hopefully we are graced with some humility and we see how small we are compared to the Creator of Strawberries and Cyclones. In that tiny state we can feel hopeless or lost, but keep going.
That Creator created you. And though angels are pretty awesome, you in your flesh and bones right there are just a little step down. If you don’t believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Yep, people that have never believed in Jesus are just a hair lower than angels in God’s design.
And the people who have put their faith in that Creator God, who sent His Son to die for our sins? Read how many times the New Testament says the words “in Christ,” and what it says about you. That is the truth.
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 NASB
