7.24.22 Huddle
Message Recap
This week we dove into a tough passage about what Jesus says about being saved. Jesus also talks about who gets saved and who doesn’t.
Intro Discussion
- Tell a brief story about a time you had to fit through, or got stuck in, a narrow space. This could include driving stories or someone parking too close to you in a parking lot.
Read and Discuss
Luke 13:22-30
22 And He was passing through one city and village after another, teaching, and proceeding on His way to Jerusalem. 23 And someone said to Him, “Lord, are there just a few who are being saved?” And He said to them, 24 “Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. 25 Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, and you begin standing outside and knocking on the door, saying, ‘Lord, open up to us!’ and He then will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know where you are from.’ 26 Then you will begin saying, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets!’ 27 And yet He will say, ‘I do not know where you are from; leave Me, all you evildoers.’ 28 In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being thrown out. 29 And they will come from east and west, and from north and south, and will recline at the table in the kingdom of God. 30 And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”
- What would have stuck out to the crowd of people hearing this?
- Who would have been in the crowd?
- Why did the people on the outside of the door think they should be let in?
- Why did Jesus not open the door for those who were knocking?
- Why is the way that people must be saved described as a “narrow door”?
- How should we “strive” to enter through the narrow door?
- What’s the difference between striving and earning?
- What might people do to think they are saved, but really aren’t?
- What are some ways this passage may change how you or others view Jesus?
- How would you answer the most important question: Am I saved?
- How do you know?
- Why does Jesus end this discussion with saying “some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last”?
Challenge Question
- If someone asked you what they must do to be saved, what would you tell them?
Memory Verse
Luke 13:24 “Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.”
Closing prayer
Thank God for providing a way for us to be saved through Jesus.
Adoration- Tell God some of the reasons you want to be in His presence forever
Confess to the times you have either not taken your relationship with Him seriously or tried by your own merit to earn your salvation
Others- Pray for those in your circles of influence who are not saved. Pray that God will give you opportunities to share the Gospel with them this week.
Self- Ask God to help you strive for the things that really matter
