Unpacking the Scripture Passages:
After reading the corresponding passages, walk through our bible study tools below by yourself or with a Group or Team.
Observe: What does it say?
Interpret: What does it mean?
Apply: What am I supposed to do with it?
What is your biggest takeaway from these passages after spending some more time working through them?
Unpacking the Teaching:
- What does “followership” mean? What does this look like in your daily life?
- Considering the passage in Genesis, what does it mean FOLLOWERSHIP to be our nature and LEADERSHIP to be our function? How can you live this out in your home life? Church life? Social life? Work life?
- How can you “steward” creation well in your immediate sphere of influence?
- What stands out to you from the way we see Jesus lead? What stands out to you about the way we see Jesus follow?
- Beginning TODAY, what steps can you take to begin your followership development journey?
Further Discussion:
- Discuss areas of your life in which following Jesus is automatic versus intentional. Do you see any similarities in those areas when it comes to following the human leaders in your life?
- Do you believe our culture [and church culture] currently despises followership?
- If yes, share your observations of our aversion to follow?
- If no, what do you believe is the society’s current attitude towards followership?
- Did your parents ever tell to be a leader not a follower, or something similar? If so, what do you think were their reasons for this instruction?
- Have you given serious consideration to developing your followership capacity? Why or why not?
- How does seeing Jesus, first as a follower, affect your understanding of followership?
- Have you ever experienced any negative effects of underdeveloped followership at work, in your relationships or church?
- Do you find following Jesus to be easier than following the human leaders in your life? Why, or why not?
- How can an improved following of human leaders develop your following of Jesus?
