He Gave Up His Seat to Give Up His Seat
Now on the first day of the week, at early dawn, the women went to the tomb, taking the aromatic spices they had prepared.
They found that the stone had been rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men stood beside them in dazzling attire.
The women were terribly frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has been raised! Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,”

When the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord of Hosts was built, God referred to Himself over and over again as “who is seated between the cherubim.” Here are some women devoted to Jesus, visiting the tomb and talking to some angels standing at each end of where Jesus’ body used to be.
Eve listened to an angel, disobeyed God, told Adam, and they fell. Now the Second Adam obeyed God, these women hear the words of angels, obey God, and what was all wrapped in sin begins to be unwrapped.
It really is the beginning of a new creation.
And remember that gold box behind the torn-in-half curtain of the temple? Here was it’s original design:
“Make one cherub on one end and one cherub on the other end; from the atonement lid you are to make the cherubim on the two ends. The cherubim are to be spreading their wings upward, overshadowing the atonement lid with their wings, and the cherubim are to face each other, looking toward the atonement lid. You are to put the atonement lid on top of the ark, and in the ark you are to put the testimony I am giving you. I will meet with you there, and from above the atonement lid, from between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the testimony, I will speak with you about all that I will command you for the Israelites.”
Exodus 25:19–22 NET
The tomb matches the design of the Ark, but there is one problem. He’s not there. He has been raised! The Mercy Seat, the place of all authority of mercy, is on the move! For the next 40 days He (Jesus, the embodiment of mercy) is going to show up in all kinds of places to His believers. In 50 days, He will personally and spiritually come to live inside each one of them!
This scene is a picture of the Ark of Covenant with God no longer seated between the cherubim. He now lives in His people as was prophesied by Jeremiah, Isaiah, David, and even Moses.
From this point on, His followers would go back to the Temple because that’s where the crowds were, but they wouldn’t stay there long.
You can’t cut up a spirit into parts. Where the Spirit of God is, all of it is there. He’s not seated between the cherubim, He’s sitting in your soul.
