6.6.21 HUDDLE
SUMMER GROUP/HUDDLE INFO: Throughout the summer, the huddle resource will begin to look a little different. Rather than provide a full lesson, the summer huddle will simply provide a few questions for discussion. If your group continues to meet during the summer, use the extra time to recharge and refresh as a group.
INTRO QUESTION
- If you could invite any one person from history (real or fictional) over for dinner, who would it be? Why?
- What living person would leave you star struck if you met them? Why?
BIBLE ENGAGEMENT | LUKE 10:38-42
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
SCRIPTURE ENGAGEMENT QUESTIONS
- What stands out to you from this text?
- What does it teach you about Jesus (personality, priorities, etc)?
- Do you identify more with Martha or Mary in this story?
- How would you describe Jesus’s interaction with Martha?
APPLICATION
- Respond to the following quote: “God’s presence should be our ultimate prize and our ultimate priority.” How is this illustrated in the text? While we may not be distracted in the same way as Martha, what are some things that distract us from this message?
- On Sunday, Matt said, “What if the first priority of Scripture is not to learn something new but simply to be in the presence of god.”
Do you ever approach Scripture in this way? How might it change the way you engage with Scripture?
