12.6.20 Huddle

Zach Below   -
  1. Bret challenged us to finish the year strong with gratitude.  What is it you are most grateful for this Christmas season?  Why?  If it is a person, shoot them a quick message letting them know you are thankful for them.
  2. Luke 18 gives a great example of why we should be grateful for grace.  Take 2-3 minutes and reflect on the areas God has shown you grace in your life.  What change in you has been inspired through Jesus?

SCRIPTURE ENGAGEMENT

Read Luke 18:9-14 together.

Optional passage questions:

  1. What stands out to you in this passage?
  2. What does this passage say about Jesus?
  3. What inspiration is derived from this passage?
  4. Do you identify with the pharisee or the tax collector more?  Why?

JUSTIFICATION

Justification is a legal term meaning one has been deemed not guilty and can go free without condemnation as deemed by a qualified judge.

  1. Bret said, “The message is trusting in Jesus for our justification.”.  Do you think your city, neighborhood, co-workers, etc perceive the church in this way?  If not what is the perception?  How can we as a group impact that for a few?
  2. Bret also said, “we [the Church] are a community of tax collectors”.  If we see ourselves in this way how does that help with how Galatians 6:1-2 tells followers of Jesus to help people “caught in a sin”? Have you experienced someone being restored through the Church?  Without compromising privacy, what observations did you make of that process?

APPLICATION

  1. Where in your life do you find yourself trying to justify yourself?  This was the question at the end of the message for us to reflect on or discuss.  Either privately or in discussion, how would you answer this question?
  2.  What sins are lingering around acting as a snare in your life? What is the best way to create a culture where people can bring those to the light for help?  How should our group respond?
  3. How can we as a group actively build the type of relationships with one another where gentle restoration can be the norm?  Where sin can be called sin and lovingly dealt with?
