Thanksgiving Week Huddle 2020
INTRO QUESTION
- Have you ever been on a trip overseas? What was the experience like?
- If you won a free 10-day vacation to anywhere in the world, where would you go?
HUDDLE INTRO
On Sunday, Uncharted International’s executive director, Ben Stewart, gave One Life an update on the work being done all over the world. In addition, he cast a bigger vision for global impact. This week’s huddle will briefly cover some of Ben’s content. However, as this is Thanksgiving week, this will be an abbreviated huddle.
VIDEO—THE PROBLEM
Watch this video from Uncharted and then discuss the following questions. Uncharted’s work includes multiplying disciples and planting churches in the most overlooked and unreached places in the world.
- What stood out to you from this video?
- In the video, Emily stated that 3.14 billion people, nearly half of the global population, still have not herd of Jesus or live in a place without any opportunity to do so. What is your reaction to this? Are you surprised? Indifferent? Hopeful?
- The video also stated, “God established his church as the primary way to dispense hope, grace, love, and justice to a world that is so desperately in need of them all.” Do you think most people think of church this way? Why or why not?
What would it take to be a place like that?
VIDEO—DU PENG
- What stood out to you from the video? What struck you?
- Du Peng said, “Our work requires a strong faith and having strong faith takes a lot of effort sometimes.” Has Du Peng’s statement that “having strong faith takes a lot of effort sometimes” been true to your faith journey? Why or why not?
GROUP ACTIVITY—GRATITUDE
One of the best practices to bring about a sense of contentment, perspective, and joy is the practice of gratitude. Being that it is Thanksgiving week, have each group member take a moment and jot down (either on paper or in the notes app on their phone)10 things they are grateful for at this moment. After taking a few moments, come back together and have each person share one.
CLOSING—PSALM 103
This week we want to close in prayer by having someone (or split it up between a few) read Psalm 103 out loud, keeping in mind the idea of global mission and gratitude.
Psalm 103
Of David.
1 Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2 Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
3 who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
5 who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
6 The Lord works righteousness
and justice for all the oppressed.
7 He made known his ways to Moses,
his deeds to the people of Israel:
8 The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.
9 He will not always accuse,
nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed,
he remembers that we are dust.
15 The life of mortals is like grass,
they flourish like a flower of the field;
16 the wind blows over it and it is gone,
and its place remembers it no more.
17 But from everlasting to everlasting
the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children’s children—
18 with those who keep his covenant
and remember to obey his precepts.
19 The Lord has established his throne in heaven,
and his kingdom rules over all.
20 Praise the Lord, you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his bidding,
who obey his word.
21 Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts,
you his servants who do his will.
22 Praise the Lord, all his works
everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the Lord, my soul.
AMEN! Have a great Thanksgiving week!
