When the Free Stuff is Better, Why Pay for the Junk?

Dan Sullivan   -

“Hey, all who are thirsty, come to the water! You who have no money, come! Buy and eat! Come! Buy wine and milk without money and without cost! Why pay money for something that will not nourish you? Why spend your hard-earned money on something that will not satisfy? Listen carefully to me and eat what is nourishing! Enjoy fine food! Pay attention and come to me! Listen, so you can live! Then I will make an unconditional covenantal promise to you, just like the reliable covenantal promises I made to David. Look, I made him a witness to nations, a ruler and commander of nations.” Look, you will summon nations you did not previously know; nations that did not previously know you will run to you, because of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he bestows honor on you. Seek the LORD while he makes himself available; call to him while he is nearby!”

Remember, Isaiah is a poet .He’s talking about wine and milk but he’s also talking about something else. The best of the land was wine and milk. To have milk, you needed grown and healthy cows. To have grown and health cows, you have to have grass and wheat for the to eat. To have grass and wheat…You get the idea. Wine was the same way.

In order to have it so abundantly and without cost, you’d have to be RICH or have a TON of it.

God’s blessing is like that. What He offers us is worthwhile and full, like all you can eat wine and milk. If that were available to you, why would you waste your time with anything else? Why would you work at all if you didn’t have to pay for the best of all foods?

My son works at a local restaurant that you love. When anyone in the owner’s family comes for dinner, they just say their name. All of the employees know them and push a special button that makes all of the numbers on the cash register go to zero.
Why would any of those people ever get Chik-N at a gas station? Why would they ever spend money on a -shudder- McChicken?

God has made salvation available to us and all people from every background that will call on His name.
