Evangelizing Your Co-Workers During Quarantine
Col. 3:13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
Col. 3:14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
Col. 3:15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
Col. 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Col. 3:17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
There is a funny meme going around Facebook during the Coronavirus Quarantine that says “Describe what your children are doing while you work from home but use the word ‘co-workers’ because that’s what they are now.” That is new for some people and status quo for others, but it brings to mind something that isn’t new to Christians mindful of the ‘Marketplace’.
Historically, we’ve used the term marketplace do describe the way we interact with the world outside of church. It’s where we do business, make things, sell things, earn a living, and interact with all different kinds of people. OneLife has even had conferences on how to best be a Christian in the marketplace (and they were very good) so that we can be a better witness to our co-workers.
Now, as day-cares and schools shut down, our kids are able to see how we work better than ever. At the same time, you might have more opportunities to sit at your desk (or your dining room table office) and pray for God’s help through your workday. You might have more opportunities to not be afraid or embarrassed to ‘be a Christian at work’ because you are a Christian at home.
While we live for Jesus at home, this is a great opportunity to let Jesus work His way into our work. While everybody is a little nuts or a little tired of being told bad news every day, your co-workers (kids or real co-workers) are looking for ways to cope. They are going to copy off of what they see you do, if they think you are doing it successfully.
If they see peace ruling in your heart as you talk on the phone or solve problems, they will be drawn to that peace. If they hear you being thankful as circumstances change and fluctuate, they’ll learn how to be thankful as the same thing happens to them.
Nobody knows how to do any of this except for Jesus. We can thank God for that. We can thank God that He has gone before us and has given us an example and a present Helper to do it ourselves. As our co-workers look at us, let’s point them to Jesus.
