Getting Excited about Having a Baby

Dan Sullivan   -

In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb.

And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”

Elizabeth wasn’t in some kind of trance. She wasn’t shouting out of control. Think it through for a minute.

Zechariah served in the temple and saw Gabriel the angel, who stands in the presence of God and at the same time speaks to Zechariah. He foretells the birth of Zechariah’s son, even though Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth are so old they gave up any hope of ever having kids.

Zechariah comes back from his service and he’s changed. He can’t speak, for one thing, but he’s different in other ways. He treats Elizabeth with such tenderness and respect. It’s almost like she’s carrying Elijah the prophet in her womb or something.

Through hand gestures and notes, Elizabeth knows that their child is going to prepare the way for the Messiah. But how could this be? How will that happen? Could the promised Messiah, the savior of Israel and all of the Gentiles, actually come in her lifetime?

Every pregnant lady is full of hopes and dreams for their kid. Elizabeth pretty much beats them all.

And then Mary came to visit.

When the baby in Elizabeth’s womb goes nuts at the arrival of Mary, the Holy Spirit reveals to Elizabeth some answers to her questions.

Look at some baby announcement videos on Youtube and watch some future grandmas lose their minds when they find out their little girl is going to have a baby.

Now put on that the hope of the Messiah and the love and joy old Elizabeth would have for young sweet Mary.

Now put on top of that the Holy Spirit.

There is going to be some shouting.

Mary is going to have a baby.
