Praying to Be Filled with the Knowledge of God’s Will
Col. 1:9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
Col. 1:10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Col. 1:11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy;
Col. 1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
Col. 1:13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,
Col. 1:14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
This is the section of scripture we’re going to go through for the next several weeks. There is a lot here that we can be blessed to dwell on.
Note right from the beginning, Paul is praying for the Colossians. Pray for all of One Life and our surrounding churches too that we’d be filled with the knowledge of God’s will! With all spiritual wisdom and understanding, imagine what the city would be like.
There are a lot of ways to help remember to pray for various people. You can pick a person’s car and decide to pray for them every time you see a car like theirs. You can pray for all of the churches you drive by around town and pray that they would be filled with the knowledge of God’s will.
One person I knew wrote down every person they could think of in their church (that alone would take a while!) and then they prayed for each one of them by name and crossed them off of their secret list.
I once worked in a call center and looked out the window every day as I talked to customers on the phone. Every time I saw a red car go by I lifted my hands (in my cubicle) and worshipped the Lord all by myself. Somedays I spent the whole day worshipping while talking people on the phone through Microsoft Word.
You can come up with your own tricks to work prayer into your daily life. As we do it, we develop that kind of habit that turns into a lifestyle of “we have not ceased to pray for you.”
But we don’t do it for our benefit.
Daydream a little if God answered your prayers. God loves to answer the prayers that He actually tells us to pray, and praying that the Church would be filled with the knowledge of His will is a good start. As you pray, get excited about what Evansville, Newburgh, Henderson, Howell, Paradise, Daviess County, Mt. Vernon, and the rest would look like if we all got FILLED with the knowledge of God’s will?
It would be awesome.
Let’s pray for that.
