God Leading Us from Faith to Faith, from Hope to Hope

Dan Sullivan   -

[15] As soon as Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, he worshiped. And he returned to the camp of Israel and said, “Arise, for the LORD has given the host of Midian into your hand.” [16] And he divided the 300 men into three companies and put trumpets into the hands of all of them and empty jars, with torches inside the jars. [17] And he said to them, “Look at me, and do likewise. When I come to the outskirts of the camp, do as I do. [18] When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then blow the trumpets also on every side of all the camp and shout, ‘For the LORD and for Gideon.’”

And so with their trumpets and their jars, they set out to kill the entire army of Midianites…WHAT?!

Look, there is no way an untrained army of 300 men, without real weapons, can come against the Midianites. They have to do something different, unusual.

Nope.

There are so few of them, they have to do something innovative and creative.

Nope.

They don’t have very good weapons, they have to make do with what they’ve got and hope for the best. It’s either this or get killed by the Midianites in their own homes.

Nope, not even that.

First, they listened to God. They didn’t even form a plan or brainstorm. The first steps for Gideon all involved growing in trust and faith in God. He started out as a diviner/witchdoctor by our standards, laying out fleeces and reading the weather. But as he grew in faith, God revealed more and more of the plan. As Gideon obeyed God, he got to see more and more of the plan actually take shape right before his eyes.

Now is the real moment of fulfillment. Like celebrating the 9 birthday of a church plant that seemed impossible (Happy birthday One Life!), or a 20 year wedding anniversary that you never imagined would be so awesome (that was me and my wife yesterday!)

As we start with the Lord, continue with the Lord, and watch for the Lord, we continue to see Him work. That’s in His nature and His default setting: to show off His glory in as many different ways as He can.

As those guys marched out at night, they knew they only had 2 options. Either God was false, and they were all going to die, or God was real, and they were about to see His greatness.
