The Magnificent Message of the Magnificent Messenger that Was the Message

Dan Sullivan   -

After God spoke long ago in various portions and in various ways to our ancestors through the prophets, in these last days he has spoken to us in a son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he created the world.

The Son is the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, and he sustains all things by his powerful word, and so when he had accomplished cleansing for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

Thus he became so far better than the angels as he has inherited a name superior to theirs.

The Lord has been proclaiming His glory in our world since He separated darkness from light. There is not one page in the Bible that doesn’t address God’s glory and power in some way. (Even when it’s hinted at in Esther!) Of all of the ways God has spoken through prophets, world events, and the preserved scriptures, Jesus is the best way that He has spoken. In Jesus, we are able to fully see the character and nature of God. In Jesus, we are able to see the summation of all of the teachings of the Law and the Prophets.

The reason is more cosmic than we first realize. JesusĀ Himself is the message that all of the prophets longed to see. When Isaiah described the Lord’s servant, he was describing Jesus. When Moses said that God would send another prophet, he was describing Jesus. When God put Adam and Eve out of the garden and described the struggle and eventual victory of mankind over the Devil, God described Jesus.

And then, at the perfect time, Jesus showed up and showed that He was the point of it all. He is the fulcrum of history and the author of life. Just like eggs in a real cheesecake, knowing that the whole Old Testament exists to point to Jesus makes the Law and the Prophets richer. All that was written in there was written to point to Jesus. As we see and read it from that perspective, we see Him in more places, even our own.
