How the Power of Sin Meets the Power of God
Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart;
there is no fear of God before his eyes.
For he flatters himself in his own eyes that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated.
The words of his mouth are trouble and deceit;
he has ceased to act wisely and do good.
He plots trouble while on his bed;
he sets himself in a way that is not good;
he does not reject evil.
Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;
your judgments are like the great deep;
man and beast you save, O Lord.

Notice that Transgression isn’t a thing that a person does, but an entity that speaks. It might be figurative and poetic language, like Wisdom calling in the streets in the book of Proverbs. Or it might be a reference to Genesis 4:7, when Sin wants mastery over Cain.
“If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.”
Genesis 4:7
In the end, sin or God will rule a person’s heart.
But if the opening verses are perfect descriptors of evil, the next few show how God always wins. Mankind is unable to save itself. We need a savior to come in and save the day. If it were for any other reason than love, it would be tyranny. If it were not predicted and foreseen years in advance, it would not be a source of hope in the current dark age.
God wants to draw more and more into His faithful recipients of love. He does it through patience during our rebellion. As we transfer His patience to others, their repentance will come, and He will get more glory and praise than ever.
