Getting the Psalms by Getting the Psalms
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths. Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies. They will receive the Lord’s blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior. Such people may seek you and worship in your presence, O God of Jacob.
Psalms 24:1-6 NLT Read More
This is one of those Psalms that set’s in and becomes more real the more you pray it. You might not get it at first, but…
The earth is the Lord’s… think on that for a little bit and you realize what John said in chapter 1 of his gospel. “All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made.”
The world and all it’s people belong to Him. That means everybody, right? Every kid stuck in a cave, every old man behind a TV.
He built the ocean depths. Sure, we’ve been on the moon, but nobody really knows what is at the bottom of the ocean! Wow! God’s been there too!
When we consider God in His holiness, sooner or later we are going to realize our lowliness. None of us can make it up to see Him face to face. We come to regard some people as holy that seem to be close to God, and we might even despair that we could never be like them.
When we acknowledge that only the Holy can draw near to a Holy God, and we realize we aren’t that, we are in the right place. That is where we see and experience the full powered mercy of God.
He wants us to be close to Him more than we do, most of the time, so He did the unthinkable. He set aside the holiness that destroys evil and walked among us. He died and rose again to give us the holiness that can receive the blessings of God and go visit Him on that mountain or anywhere else.
God wants us to understand and know Him, and He’ll go to continual lengths to help us get it.
