Things War Against My Soul: God Sends Me On Mission
O Lord my God, in you do I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and deliver me, lest like a lion they tear my soul apart, rending it in pieces, with none to deliver.
O Lord my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, if I have repaid my friend with evil or plundered my enemy without cause, let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it, and let him trample my life to the ground and lay my glory in the dust.
Psalms 7:1–5 ESV Read More
Not to be overly dramatic or emo, but there are a lot of things going on that can tear your soul apart like a lion. The weekly Facebook crisis, the nightly news, or what is happening next door as you read this in your living room. It can overwhelm you with the feeling of being out of control.
I love the next response – “Lord, if I have done this…” brings it immediately into our control. Of all of the things we can’t control that affect us, what about the things that we can control? Am I blameless in those things?
For the first time in human history, we can live (an allegedly) full life knowing hundreds of people thousands of miles away and not have any need to know the 8 households that surround our house. The Psalmist turns to not fretting over the things trying to ruin his life and thinks about God who rules over all and empowers His people.
God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day.
If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow; he has prepared for him his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts.
Psalms 7:,11–13
God is going to take care of those far away people, but He might be waiting to use you to take care of the people nearby.
I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord , the Most High.
Psalms 7:17
