Man It’s Bad, but God, He’s Good

Dan Sullivan   -

They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one. Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon the Lord ? There they are in great terror, for God is with the generation of the righteous. You would shame the plans of the poor, but the Lord is his refuge. Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

Sometimes it seems like there isn’t even a glimmer of a positive thing in the world. It can be depressing. There are insurmountable obstacles to ‘solving’ poverty, homelessness, hunger, injustice, etc. When finally, the last person you would expect to fall actually falls, your hope in humanity takes it’s last bow and leaves you surrounded with corrupt people that can’t be trusted.
The fact is, that isn’t news to God. 100% of the population of His first inhabited creation were kicked out. He has known since the beginning of the world that there would have to be a Lamb slain for each and every one of us.
That is the flip side of the bad news that there aren’t any good people in the world. There is one very very good God who shows mercy and compassion on all who take refuge in Him. The rich, powerful, and evil may exploit the poor and make it a dismal day, but the Lord is on the side of the victim, the downtrodden, and the too-poor-for-human-rights.
That is how we get glad. All of our helpless hopelessness can be aimed at the Lord and He will answer. He will restore fortunes, instill justice, and show mercy in the way only the Compassionate and Merciful God can. That is the good news. We are bad, but He is good, and He is showing us mercy.
