How God’s Power Shows Off This Week
[The power] that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Easter is coming! Every Sunday we celebrate and reflect on the resurrection of Jesus, but Easter is the biggest and best celebration of that day. That day was the greatest display of God’s power, ever. Think that through for a minute. When Paul wanted to say how powerful God was, He didn’t compare it to
The 10 plagues, Red Sea, and exodus out of Egypt
The pillar of fire that led the Hebrews for 40 years in the wilderness
The conquest of the promised land by Joshua and a nomadic slave army
The power of Elijah in the time of Ahab
The rebuilding of Jerusalem after 70 years of captivity in Babylon
None of those things were as powerful as God raising Jesus from the dead and seating Him in the place of authority over all creation. That act sums up the total power of God.
Raising Jesus from the dead shows that God accepted His sacrifice for all of our sins.
Raising Jesus from the dead shows His faithfulness to stay true to everything He said.
Raising Jesus from the dead sets the record for His ability to be more powerful than death and sin, which means all who are in Him no longer have to be afraid of either.
Finally, it says that God gave Jesus to the church, His body, as the head of the church. The body of Christ, which is all of us who believe Him, fills all of creation. We fill the world, and Christ fills us. As we are united in Him, the whole world changes from darkness, rebellion, and decay into resurrection and life. As we submit to His rule and obey what our Head tells us, we are part of bringing everything into His dominion.
Fear, sin, death, misery, suffering, all find their place under the feet of Christ as we walk on top of them worshiping Jesus. That is the mighty power of God showing off in us.
