Huddle // Family: The Dark Side Part 5
Did you ever have an “Oh no” moment? Did you ever have one of those stories of something you did as a kid, like pulling the gear shifter in your parent’s car and they had to run to stop it?
Read Proverbs 12:18
The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Do you have any memorable (positive or negative) words that were spoken into you? Why did it impact you so much? What are the characteristics of those people?
C.S. Lewis Quote: “You’ve never met a mere mortal.”
Jerry Coyne Quote: “ The reason we don’t allow euthanasia of newborns is because humans are seen as special, and I think this is from religion — in particular, the view that humans, unlike animals, are endowed with a soul.”
Respond to these 2 quotes.
What’s your base for how you view people? Their value, their worth.
What barriers are there to keep you from valuing children? What needs to change in your life to intentionally place value in children?
Read Genesis 1:26-30
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
Creation: We know that we want to speak intentional words of life into children.
Fall: But we get annoyed and frustrated, and sometimes fail at speaking words of life.
As parents and adults in children’s lives, we’re going to fail at some point. But how do we restore or where do we go from there? What are some examples in your own life where you’ve seen restoration and what did God teach you through it?
If someone asked the children in your life what you pour into them, what would they say?
