Read Genesis 3:20-21
Why did God give them animal skin to replace the fig leaves?
Here is a Commentary on this passage:
Tunics of skin: In order for Adam and Eve to be clothed, a sacrifice had to be made. An animal had to die. Without shedding of blood there is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22)
There are only two religions; there is the religion of fig leaves and there is the religion of God’s perfect provision through Jesus.
Covering ourselves with our good works is like Adam and Eve trying to cover themselves with fig leaves. Our good works are like monopoly money – great for monopoly, but not legal tender. Your good works are essential to what it takes to live out your life, but they are not legal tender before God.
iii. Adam and Eve were clothed in a garment that was purchased with the life of another. We are clothed with a garment of righteousness that was purchased with the life of another, Jesus Christ.
Look up the definition of Guilt.Look up the definition of shame. // How are these different?
What is it about shame that tends to force us into hiding and retreat?
Do you remember your earliest experience with shame?
The fig leaf was Adam & Eve’s attempt to cover their shame. God gave them his own way to cover their shame (sacrifice).
What are the things we do to cope with our own shame? How do we respond? Who do we blame?
What’s the difference of how God deals with our shame as opposed to how we deal with our own shame?
