Zach told the story of jumping off the balcony and said it was the first lie he remembered telling his parents. What’s the first lie you remember telling or a funny thing you lied about that ended up being bigger than you thought?
How would you define personal progress?
How do you think a person progresses?
What is the ultimate goal of progress for people? To become ______________________. Is it any different for a Christian?
How do most people your age deal with things they regret doing? Carry it? Bury it? Surrender it?
Do you believe being a Christ follower really helps you move forward easier? Why?
Read Philippians 3:12-16
What does this verse tell us about dealing with our past?
What does it suggest we move forward toward?
Read Hebrews 12:1-2
What does this verse tell us about dealing with our past?
How do we move forward or what do we move forward toward?
REFLECTION/PRAYER
Take a moment and think about your past. Have you tried to handle it on your own? Are you carrying it? Burying it? Ask God to help you surrender your past to Him through Christ and move forward without guilt and shame and into new life.
Take a moment to think about what you are moving forward toward. What is the ultimate goal of what you do? Maybe you’ve never even thought about why you do things, you just do them. Ask God to help you “drop every extra weight, every sin that clings to us and slackens our pace, and let you run with endurance the long race set before you. Pray that God helps keep Christ as the focus and becoming more like Christ the goal.
