The Art of Rest: Part 3
Read Mark 4:35- Mark 5:1
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. 40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
5 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
What’s your favorite roller coaster?
Has anyone ever been in a situation that you thought it was life-threatening? What did you feel like?
What do you think would go through your mind if you were on the boat with Jesus and the disciples?
The storm is happening because they are doing what Jesus told them to do. Has that ever happened to you? Have you ever done something that you felt like God asked you to do, and it put you in a place of unrest?
Is there anything going on in your life right now that you would label as unrest? How are you handling that? How can you let go of that control? Don’t forget that in this scripture the disciples were together through this time of unrest. In the same way, you are all together right now. Use this time to share with each other and grow together.
