Because 50 Day 47

Scripture Reading: Romans 8:14-17
14For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Today’s Prayer:
God, thank you for choosing me to be your child. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your family.

Going Deeper:
Knowing who you are in Christ changes how you face the challenges that come your way. Knowing that you are a child of God changes how you can tackle a situation. I remember as a little boy trying to open something and not being able to. I was struggling, straining and getting no where. In frustration, I asked my dad for help. He came over and with very little effort opened it for me. We have that same type of access with our heavenly Father. What are you struggling with under your own strength right now? Have you asked for Him to come to your aid yet?
One of the things I love about many of the worship songs is that they are rooted in Scripture. There is something powerful about singing truths connected to the Word of God as an act of worship. Right now, one of my favorite songs that we sing is “No Longer Slaves” by Bethel Music. That song finds it’s anchor in this passage. Take a moment and listen to the song again.

How does this song reinforce the truths that Paul taught the church at Rome? How does this song encourage you in your Christian walk today? Spend time today in prayer remembering that you are a child of God. He has chosen you. The Spirit has set you free from the things that used to have power over you. He has brought you freedom, purpose and identity.
