Scripture Reading: Matthew 10:1, 5-8, 11:1
1Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.
5These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. 6Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. 7As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ 8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
1After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee.
Today’s Prayer:
God, may we be a people, a church, of relentless action.

Jesus was a man of action. He moved with purpose. He taught with a purpose. He sent his disciples with a purpose. In Matthew 10, Jesus sends his disciples out with authority to act. What actions did he give them the authority to carry out? What do you think when you read this list of actions? Do you think that believers can still carry out those actions?
What is the message that Jesus gives his disciples when he sends them out (verse 7)? Jesus’ message throughout Matthew has been this exact message. He spent a significant amount of time teaching through the Sermon on the Mount about what this kingdom would look like. Why would Jesus send out his disciples just to repeat his message? What would they be able to accomplish through this?
If Jesus sent his disciples out on a mission, what is the implication for your life? What is the mission that you have been given? How do you carry Jesus’ message out into the community that God has placed you? How can you bring healing and hope into the situations that you will face today? How can you bring the good news of the gospel to the people God has put in your life?
