Because 50 Day 31

Scripture Reading: Acts 2:42-47
42They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear God, help me to value the relationship with You first, but also help me to value each and every relationship that I have.
Going Deeper:
Today’s prayer reminds us of the importance of loving God and loving others. In fact, that concept is so important that Jesus summarized the whole of the Law into those two commands. The early church provides a great example of how we can love God and love others. From the passage above, what was the early church doing to grow their love for God? How were they growing their love for others?
A key word in the passage above is “devoted.” The word comes from a combination of two words meaning “to continue steadfastly in a thing and give unremitting care to it, to persevere, to be in constant readiness.” The word occurs 10 times in the New Testament and five of those times it accompanies a command to pray. What is it about prayer that is so essential to developing our relationship with God?
When we pray, we are continuing our conversation with God. We are learning to listen to Him and getting into the habit of going to him. DL Moody once said, “God is not bothered by our constant coming and asking. The way to trouble God is not to come at all.”  Spend time today in prayer seeking to hear from God and developing your relationship with Him.
