Scripture Reading: Psalm 2:7-8
7I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:
He said to me, “You are my son;
today I have become your father.
8Ask me,
and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.

Lord, may we increasingly become a church of radical belonging.

In the video above, Austin talks about the impact that relationships have in our lives. He points out that the connection to another personal is more powerful and more profound than the connection to technology. In what ways have you seen that demonstrated in your own life?
We learn from Scripture that we were made relationships. One of the primary metaphors used to express our connection to God is a father-child relationship. What can you learn about how we can relate to God from that metaphor? What does it mean to you that we can call God our father? Is that something that brings you peace or is that idea difficult for you to understand? What does it mean that God calls you His child?
When my wife and I were finalizing the adoption of our daughter, we were compelled to stand before a judge and be questioned. We travelled up to Indianapolis and sat in the court room when a man who looked like Philip Banks from “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” entered the room. He sat behind his bench and probed us with questions. One of the questions that he asked us is if we understood that through this adoption, this little girl would become our daughter and would become a full heir entitled to a portion of our estate. (Estate is a funny idea when he was speaking to a youth minister at the time, but none the less, she’s entitled). We enthusiastically agreed. Why? Because we valued her and the bond that we had been given. How does it make you feel to know that God has taken every step necessary to adopt you? What rights do you have as a child of God? How can you communicate that good news to others?
