Because 50 Day 14
Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:22-25
22Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Today’s Prayer:
Lord, use me for every moment of every single day. When I go to worship, may I be constantly worshipping you.
Going Deeper:
I spent five years working for a local fitness company as the Human Resources Director. In that role, I was given the opportunity to see individuals thrive in roles that they seemed to be uniquely gifted for. I also was given the opportunity to help instruct individuals how they could perform better (sometimes I was giving them tips for their next employer’s benefit). I would often stop into the gym at different hours of the day to observe how our team members were working not just when they expected to be observed, but when they didn’t think anyone would see.
In the passage that Paul writes to the church at Colossae, he instructs those working for others to be respectful and obedient, not just when they’re being watched, but just as an outflow of who they are as a follower of Jesus. Would you say that work ethic and practices reflect your devotion to God? Does the way that you work reflect well on your relationship with God? Do you treat your employer with the respect due to him or her? Do you treat your employees the way that God would want you to treat them?
Jesus Christ is the Lord over every aspect of life. S.M. Zwemer said, “Unless Jesus is the Lord of all, He is not Lord at all.” In what areas of your life do you need to surrender to His lordship? How can that area of your life become a greater act of worship?
