Scripture Reading: Psalm 145:4-5
4One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.
5They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
Today’s Prayer:
Lord, use us to help shape the worldview of the next generation.

Our Life Group (that’s what we were calling Growth Groups at the time) was meeting on Monday night. There was a knock at the door. Our youngest daughter, Morgan, ran to answer the door. It was Amanda. Amanda came in and greeted Morgan warmly. She sat down in one of our chairs and Morgan quickly scurried into her lap. They read books together and talked while we waited for the rest of the group to arrive. A few months later, as we were leaving One Life West’s construction, our four year old said, “Dad, it’s my Amanda!” We pulled alongside Amanda and rolled down the window and Morgan lit up like a Christmas tree.
Through her time and attention, Amanda was modeling the love of Jesus to our daughter. The psalmist paints a wonderful picture of what happens when we pass on the message of how God has worked in our lives and before us. Simon De Muis, the 17th century French theologian, wrote, “Each generation catches the strains from the last, echoes it, and passes it along to the next. One generation declares what it has seen, and passes on the praise to the generation which has not seen as yet the wonders celebrated.”
When you know what God has done, how He has worked in your life and in the lives of those before you, you can easily tell the next generation. Your story of faith is one of the greatest assets that God has given you. How has God worked in your life? What have you learned about the character and work of God? How did you learn it? How could you share that with someone in the next generation? Outside of your family, who is someone in the next generation that God has put in your life that you can demonstrate the love of Jesus to?
