Because 50 Day 2
Because 50: Day 2
Scripture Reading: Psalm 145:2
2Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.
Today’s Prayer:
Lord, help me to worship you consciously and intentionally every day.
Going Deeper:
You never fully appreciate the value of six minutes until you talk with an attorney and get the invoice for that 1/10 of an hour. I remember when my family was going through the adoption process, I had a fairly long conversation with the attorney on our first phone call. We discussed his recent conference he attended, how Kitten was doing and just life in general. After I got the invoice, I resolved that I no longer cared what he did with his life outside of the moments, we talked or he was working on our case. When you put a dollar figure on it, all of a sudden six minutes seems like a big deal.
Earlier you heard Bret quote leadership expert John Maxwell. Maxwell says, “What you do with your days is what you do with your life.” If that’s the case, what would your schedule say about your life? When you look into your appointments on your calendar, what does it reflect is the most important thing to you? Having a full calendar is not a problem, but what is it full of? Author Henry David Thoreau wrote, “It is not enough to be busy. The question is, ‘What are we busy about?’”
Take some time to evaluate your life. Perhaps you should take a look back at how you spent your last week. Or another way of learning how you spend your time is by doing a time audit. As you go through today, track how you spend your time. Did you spend 15 minutes while you were getting your morning coffee talking to Office Manager just because she is one of the nicest people you know. That’s not a problem, but write it down. At the end of the day, reflect back. How did you spend your time today? Did how you lived your life reflect the prayer we are praying today? Were you conscious and intentional in your worship today?
Sometimes we need help making room for life. Bill Hybels, the founder of The Global Leadership Summit, has wrote two excellent books that would help you if you really want to explore this topic in greater depth. Check out Simplify and Too Busy Not to Pray.
