Scripture Reading: Matthew 4:1-4
“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ””
Questions for Reflection:
We launched our new series “Stand” yesterday. We’ll spend time this week looking at Jesus teaching around the idea of spiritual warfare. Why do you think that Jesus was led by the Spirit to be tempted? Why did the tempter wait until the end of Jesus’ fast to confront him? What is the first temptation that Jesus faced? Often in moments when we are most worn down, most tired or hungry, we will face temptations. How did Jesus respond to the tempter? How can you spend more time in God’s word and get to know Him better?
