Scripture Reading: Genesis 39:20-23
20Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined. But while Joseph was there in the prison, 21the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. 22So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. 23The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.
Questions for Reflection:
There is a temptation when we face difficulty to think that God has abandoned us. In this passage, where does Joseph find himself? How did he end up in prison? How would you feel if you were Joseph and in prison on false pretenses? Even in the midst of incredible challenges, Joseph did two things. He remained faithful to God. Joseph did not allow his circumstances to dictate his faith. Second, Joseph sought to honor God by working faithfully wherever he was. How did the author of Genesis describe Joseph’s work ethic? You may not be in your ideal situation right now. Trust God and remain faithful. Work diligently where he has placed you and ask Him to use you there.
