Scripture: Deuteronomy 32:1-4
1Listen, you heavens, and I will speak;
hear, you earth, the words of my mouth.
2Let my teaching fall like rain
and my words descend like dew,
like showers on new grass,
like abundant rain on tender plants.
3I will proclaim the name of the Lord.
Oh, praise the greatness of our God!
4He is the Rock, his works are perfect,
and all his ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong,
upright and just is he.
Questions for Reflection:
Matt said Sunday that the new nature we have been given bears a reflection of the nature of God. To understand who we are called to be, we must understand the character of God. Today’s reading comes from the end of Moses’ ministry. As he was transitioning leadership to Joshua, Moses gathered the people of Israel and quoted a song about who God is and what He had done for His people. As you read through the passage, what does it teach you about the character of God? What does Moses celebrate about Him?
One of the major themes of this short excerpt from the song is the righteousness of God. He is perfect, just, without wrong, upright. When you compare that standard to your own life, how does that make you feel? The good news of the Gospel is that through the person and work of Jesus, we have been given the righteousness of God. He has made us right. How does it make you feel to know that you have been made righteousness, even after all that you have done that may have failed to meet the definition? Spend time today praising God and celebrating His work on your behalf.
